About Caixa Rural Galega in Spain
Caixa Rural Galega is a Galician credit cooperative (cooperativa de crédito) providing retail banking and insurance services throughout Galicia. Founded in Lugo where it maintains its headquarters, the institution serves approximately 15,000 member-owners and is recognized as the only wholly Galician-owned financial institution. Following the sale or merger of all other Galician banks and savings banks—including Caixa Galicia, Caixanova, Banco Etcheverría (now Abanca), Banco Pastor (absorbed by Santander), and Banco Gallego (now Sabadell)—Caixa Rural Galega remains the sole independent Galician bank. The cooperative is a member of Grupo Caja Rural, Spain's leading cooperative banking network.
