About COFIDE in Peru

COFIDE (Corporación Financiera de Desarrollo S.A.) is Peru's state-owned development bank, dedicated to promoting sustainable and inclusive economic development throughout the country. As a second-tier bank, COFIDE does not operate as a traditional commercial bank serving individual consumers directly. Instead, it channels financing through qualified financial intermediaries to support strategic national projects, strengthen micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), develop capital markets, and promote financial inclusion in underserved areas.

The bank is owned 99.22% by the Peruvian government through FONAFE (Fondo Nacional de Financiamiento de la Actividad Empresarial del Estado), with the remaining 0.78% held by CAF (Development Bank of Latin America). COFIDE operates as an autonomous institution with independent board governance while remaining regulated by the Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFPs (SBS), Peru's banking and insurance regulator.
