Spuerkeess (officially Banque et Caisse d'Épargne de l'État, Luxembourg) is Luxembourg's oldest and leading financial institution, established as the country's first savings bank in 1856. As a state-owned commercial bank, it has evolved into a full-service universal bank offering retail banking, private banking, and corporate banking services.
With approximately 1,800 employees and total assets of €57.2 billion (as of December 2024), Spuerkeess ranks as the third-largest bank in Luxembourg by total assets and the largest bank with domestic capital. The bank is wholly owned by the Luxembourg State and has been designated as a Significant Institution under European Banking Supervision since 2014, placing it under direct supervision of the European Central Bank.
