St. Gallen Cantonal Bank (St.Galler Kantonalbank AG or SGKB) is a universal bank serving the cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell Ausserrhoden in Eastern Switzerland. Founded in 1868, it is the fifth-largest cantonal bank in Switzerland by total assets, with CHF 45.6 billion as of 2024.
The bank is majority-owned by the Canton of St. Gallen (54.8% of share capital) and has been publicly traded on the SIX Swiss Exchange since April 2001. SGKB operates with a full cantonal guarantee, providing depositors with enhanced security, and maintains an Aa1 credit rating from Moody's, reflecting its high creditworthiness.
