About Bayerische Landesbank in Germany
Bayerische Landesbank (BayernLB) is a publicly regulated commercial bank and one of Germany's six Landesbanken (state banks). Headquartered in Munich, BayernLB is the seventh-largest financial institution in Germany with total assets of approximately €285 billion and over 7,700 employees group-wide as of recent reporting.
The bank operates as the principal bank of the Free State of Bavaria, the central institution for Bavarian savings banks, and a specialized commercial bank serving corporate clients. BayernLB is 75% owned by the Free State of Bavaria (indirectly via BayernLB Holding AG) and 25% owned by the Sparkassenverband Bayern, the umbrella organization of Bavarian savings banks.
As a Significant Institution, BayernLB has been directly supervised by the European Central Bank since late 2014 under the European Banking Supervision framework.
