About Byblos Bank in Syria
Byblos Bank Syria (BBS) was the Syrian subsidiary of Lebanon's Byblos Bank S.A.L., operating as a commercial bank providing private sector banking services in Syria. Established as one of the first private banks approved under Syria's 2001 banking reform law, Byblos Bank Syria was created to modernize the Syrian banking system and provide new financial services to the country's private enterprise sector, with particular emphasis on assisting small and medium-scale enterprises. The bank was backed by international development institutions, including the OPEC Fund for International Development, which made an equity investment of USD 3 million in 2005.
