About VAPR Federal Credit Union in Puerto Rico
VAPR Federal Credit Union is a federal credit union founded in 1950, making it the first federal credit union established in Puerto Rico. Serving over 19,000 members with approximately $271.81 million in assets, VAPR FCU operates four branch locations across Puerto Rico. The credit union was originally organized to provide low-cost financial services to federal employees, particularly those working at the U.S. Veterans Administration, earning the affectionate nickname "el banquito" (the little bank) when it began with just 11 employees.
As a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative, VAPR FCU is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors elected by and from the membership. All profits are returned to members annually in the form of dividends and low-cost loans.
