Padma Bank is a private commercial bank headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Originally established in 2013 as The Farmers Bank Limited, it was renamed Padma Bank in 2019 following a government-led restructuring due to financial scandals and liquidity crises.
The bank is classified as a fourth-generation bank in Bangladesh and operates under majority ownership by state-owned institutions. Four state-owned commercial banks—Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, and Rupali Bank—along with the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) collectively hold 68 percent ownership of Padma Bank, making it unique in the Bangladeshi banking sector.
