About Caja Zongolica in Mexico

Caja Zongolica is a savings and credit cooperative (Sociedad Cooperativa de Ahorro y Préstamo, or SOCAP) that serves indigenous communities and rural populations in Mexico. Operating primarily in the mountainous Sierra de Zongolica region of Veracruz, the institution specializes in microfinance services for underserved populations, including coffee growers, taxi drivers, merchants, teachers, and indigenous women entrepreneurs. The cooperative is authorized by the Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores (CNBV) and provides deposit insurance up to 25,000 UDIs (approximately 212,000 pesos) per member through FOCOOP.

Caja Zongolica stands out for its deep commitment to financial inclusion in areas where traditional banking institutions rarely operate.
