The bank is named after the Rokel River, the longest river in Sierra Leone, symbolizing its prominence as the "Gateway to Banking in Sierra Leone." With over 500 employees and operations spanning the entire country, Rokel Commercial Bank is one of the three largest commercial banks in Sierra Leone by assets.

The bank holds approximately 25% of all banking activities in the country and is majority-owned by the Government of Sierra Leone (65%), with 35% owned by private institutions, organizations, and individuals.
