Karafarin Bank (Persian: بانک کارآفرین, meaning "Entrepreneurship Bank") is a leading private commercial bank in Iran. Established in 2001, it holds the distinction of being the first privately owned bank established since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The bank is a publicly traded company on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE: KRAF1) and operates as a full-service commercial bank serving retail, corporate, and investment banking customers across Iran.
As of 2017, Karafarin Bank reported revenues of approximately €800 million EUR with around 1,850 employees. The bank operates under Islamic banking principles in compliance with Sharia law, which prohibits interest-based transactions (riba) and requires ethical, asset-backed financing structures.
