About Middle East Bank in Iran
Middle East Bank (MEB), officially known as Khavarmianeh Bank (Persian: بانک خاورمیانه), is a privately-owned Iranian commercial bank headquartered in Tehran. Operating primarily as a wholesale bank, MEB focuses on corporate clients and specialized credit products, distinguishing itself from traditional retail banking operations in Iran.
The bank is owned by small private shareholders and operates approximately 34 branches throughout Iran. MEB operates under Islamic banking principles, as mandated by Iranian law, which prohibits the charging and payment of interest (riba).
Despite being subject to international sanctions, Middle East Bank maintains its SWIFT BIC code (KHMIIRTH) and is one of the few Iranian banks authorized to support humanitarian trade and transactions.
