Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG, Sucursal en España (Spanish Branch) operates in Madrid as part of pbb's European network for commercial real estate finance and public investment finance. The Madrid branch focuses on origination, client relationships, and market intelligence for Spanish transactions, with funding and back-office operations managed through the German parent's infrastructure.

Question 6

What makes Deutsche Pfandbriefbank unique?

Accepted Answer

The Madrid branch, established in 2009 during the financial crisis, demonstrates pbb's long-term commitment to the Spanish market through periods of both economic challenge and recovery. Spain's commercial real estate sector has undergone significant transformation since 2009, and pbb has maintained consistent presence throughout these cycles.

Pbb distinguishes itself as a pure specialist bank rather than a universal banking provider, focusing exclusively on professional-grade commercial real estate and public-sector financing. This specialization enables deep market expertise and relationship-based lending supported by local teams with international backing.

The branch benefits from pbb's status as one of Europe's largest Pfandbrief issuers, providing stable, long-term refinancing that supports competitive lending terms for Spanish borrowers. With over 85% of pbb's portfolio evaluated using ESG criteria, Spanish clients access financing aligned with increasingly important sustainability standards.

Question 7

What type of financial institution is Deutsche Pfandbriefbank?

Accepted Answer

This is an EEA branch (sucursal) of Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG, a German Pfandbriefbank (covered bond bank) and Hypothekenbank (mortgage bank). As a branch, it operates under the German parent's banking license rather than holding separate Spanish banking authorization.

The parent institution is classified as a Significant Institution under European Banking Supervision, subject to direct oversight by the European Central Bank. This Madrid branch is supervised by the ECB (given pbb's significance) in coordination with Spanish banking authorities.

Branch operations do not participate in separate national deposit guarantee schemes. Customer deposits are protected through the German parent's participation in the Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken (EdB), covering up to 100,000 EUR per customer under German deposit protection law.
