About Bankmed in Lebanon
Bankmed SAL (formerly Banque de la Méditerranée S.A.L) is one of Lebanon's top five commercial banks by assets and deposits. Founded in 1944 in Beirut, the bank is closely associated with the family of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, who was assassinated in 2005.
Bankmed operates 61 branches throughout Lebanon, one branch in Cyprus, and maintains Bankmed Suisse in Geneva, Switzerland. With total assets of approximately $19 billion as of 2018 and a client portfolio exceeding 130,000 customers, Bankmed represents around 10% of Lebanon's total banking system by assets.
