Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is one of the largest state-owned commercial banks in Indonesia and a pioneer in microfinance across Southeast Asia. The bank specializes in providing financial services to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), serving approximately 30 million retail clients through its extensive network of over 9,000 branches, units, and service points. As of 2022, BRI is the second-largest bank in Indonesia by assets and holds the distinction of being the country's oldest bank, with a history spanning over 125 years.
BRI operates as a government-owned company (Persero) with the Indonesian government holding 53% ownership. The bank went public in 2003 when the government sold 30% of its shares through an IPO on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.
