Banco Hipotecario is a commercial bank and mortgage lender in Argentina whose operations are based on loans with real guarantees. Founded in 1886 as Banco Hipotecario Nacional (National Mortgage Bank), it is one of Argentina's oldest and most traditional financial institutions, second only to Banco Provincia among active banks.
With 139 years of history, the bank has facilitated over 2 million mortgage loans throughout its existence. It operates as a public limited company with mixed ownership—the Argentine state holds majority control while private administration manages daily operations, with real estate firm IRSA Inversiones y Representaciones S.A. as the principal private shareholder.
