About General Electric Credit Union (GECU) in the United States
General Electric Credit Union (GECU) is a full-service federal credit union headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded originally to serve employees of General Electric Aircraft Engines, GECU has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Ohio and the third-largest locally based financial institution in Greater Cincinnati. With over 306,000 members and approximately $4.25 billion in assets as of 2025, GECU operates as a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative serving communities across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
As a cooperative credit union, GECU is owned and operated by its members, with a volunteer board of directors composed of real members making decisions on behalf of the membership. The credit union's philosophy centers on "People Helping People," designing products and services to benefit members rather than maximize profits for outside shareholders.
