Over the decades, it expanded its infrastructure and services to meet the growing demands of agricultural producers in southern Alto Paraná and northern Itapúa.

Accepted Answer

Coorpena emphasizes financial education for its members, promoting good resource management as the foundation for business success. This focus on member capacity-building sets it apart from purely commercial operations.

Question 7

What type of financial institution is Coorpena?

Accepted Answer

Coorpena is classified as a Type "A" production cooperative (Cooperativa de Producción Tipo "A") under the supervision of INCOOP (Instituto Nacional de Cooperativismo), Paraguay's national cooperative institute. This classification represents the highest transparency and compliance category for production cooperatives in Paraguay.

Unlike savings and credit cooperatives, Coorpena is primarily a production cooperative focused on agricultural and industrial activities. However, it provides financial education and resource management training to its member-owners. The cooperative is registered with the Paraguayan government procurement system and is a member of UNICOOP, a central organization that groups cooperatives from various economic sectors in Paraguay.

As a production cooperative, Coorpena operates under cooperative principles where members are both owners and primary beneficiaries of the services provided.

Question 8

What is INCOOP and how does it regulate Coorpena?

Accepted Answer

INCOOP (Instituto Nacional de Cooperativismo) is Paraguay's national cooperative institute responsible for supervising and regulating all cooperatives in the country. INCOOP classifies cooperatives into transparency categories: Type "A" (highest transparency and compliance), Type "B" (moderate compliance), and Type "C" (basic compliance).

Coorpena holds Type "A" classification for production cooperatives, which means it regularly submits financial statements to INCOOP, maintains proper governance structures, and adheres to cooperative principles. This classification places Coorpena among the most transparent and well-managed production cooperatives in Paraguay, alongside other prominent institutions like Colonias Unidas, Fernheim, Neuland, and Chortitzer.

Type "A" cooperatives are required to maintain higher standards of accountability and transparency compared to lower-tier cooperatives, providing greater confidence to members and business partners.
