Question 6

Coopetaxi distinguishes itself through its exclusive focus on taxi drivers and transportation workers, creating a cooperative that deeply understands the financial realities of the taxi profession. This specialized approach allows the institution to offer flexible loan repayment schedules, credit evaluation criteria suited to irregular income, and services aligned with the daily cash-flow patterns of taxi work.

The closed-bond structure creates a strong sense of professional solidarity among members who share similar economic challenges and opportunities. This professional homogeneity enables more effective peer support, better risk assessment based on industry knowledge, and stronger member engagement.

Occupational cooperatives like Coopetaxi play an important role in Paraguay's cooperative ecosystem by providing financial inclusion to self-employed and informal sector workers who often face barriers accessing traditional banking services. The cooperative model allows taxi drivers to pool resources, share risks, and access credit based on mutual trust and understanding of their profession.

Question 7

What type of financial institution is Coopetaxi Ltda.?

Accepted Answer

Coopetaxi Ltda. is classified as a Cooperativa Multiactiva de Ahorro y Crédito Tipo C (Type C Multiactive Savings and Credit Cooperative) in Paraguay's cooperative financial system.

Under INCOOP's regulatory framework, Type C cooperatives are institutions with total assets below 5 billion Paraguayan Guaraníes (approximately USD 670,000). These smaller cooperatives receive proportionate supervision while maintaining compliance with fundamental cooperative regulations.

The "multiactive" designation allows Coopetaxi to engage in various cooperative activities beyond basic financial services, including consumption support and general member services. The "closed-bond" nature means membership is restricted to individuals connected to the taxi and transportation sector, distinguishing it from open cooperatives serving the general public.

This occupational cooperative model is recognized within Paraguay's cooperative framework as an effective way to provide financial services to specific professional groups, particularly those in informal or self-employed sectors who benefit from specialized understanding of their income patterns and financial needs.
